Orchard walks
There are many walks in Herefordshire that take you through or past orchards.Besides the events dedicated to Herefordshire Year in the Orchard 2011 there are many other permanent ways you can appreciate and explore Herefordshire's Orchard Heritage.
Here are just a few examples:
- Waymarked circular walks – the gentle amble of Breinton Loop takes you through traditional orchards and alongside the River Wye.
- Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve has an example of an over mature traditional farmhouse orchard, adjacent to which is "Lady Close Orchard" an orchard planted over the past 10 years with support from the local community and the Government's Countryside Stewardship Scheme
- Putley Orchards Loop Walk - A four mile walk through small pastures, woodland, orchards old and new, with fine views of the Marcle Ridge and Malvern Hills. The leaflet for this walk can be downloaded from the link below.

Natural England - Existing permissive access is being funded through Countryside Stewardship and Environmental Stewardship Schemes. These are agri-environment schemes providing funding to farmers and other land managers in England who deliver effective environmental management on their land. There are currently 12 walks that take you through Herefordshire’s Orchards. Traditional Orchards are financially supported by the schemes to encourage sensitive environmental management of existing orchards and some new plantings. We hope you enjoy passing through these orchards that are an important and attractive part of the Herefordshire landscape. Leaflets for all 12 can be downloaded from the 'Resource' box below.
